Tracking digital footprints in India

A month or so ago, Vaibhav Singh and Harshika Jain, who are fourth-year students of Industrial Design at the National Institute of Design in India, reached out to Orbitist in hopes of creating a map to illustrate issues around digital privacy and cyber security.

The two gathered information from "basically everyone who uses the internet," said Harshika, to show how much personal data can be found on the web.

Because the National Institute of Design is located in Ahmedabad, the two compiled Instagram posts from the area on an Orbitist map and created a visualization using CARTO's Twitter mapping feature to overlay on the original map.

The markers represent Instagram posts, while the blue dots represent commonly used terms related to Ahmedabad on Twitter.

The finalized map was then presented on their blog.
