Mapping a city in transformation

We had the great opportunity to help Buffalo Business First — Western New York's primary business newspaper — with their annual "CORE Strength" publication. The idea behind this special publication is to document major development projects going on in Western New York, a region under fast transformation.

In the past, the media outlet used traditional methods to showcase all of the construction and major renovations in the region with a series of print maps. This year, they decided to take the project up a notch with interactive maps on the web.

Using the Orbitist platform, Buffalo Business First was able to create a series of regional maps that include information about development projects, images, and even Google Street Views.

Here's South Buffalo, just one of 19 sub-regions covered in the project:

Moving forward, these maps will be combined into a master "Crane Watch" database that will be used by Buffalo Business First journalists to track and publish real estate and development updates throughout the year.
